The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology is an internationally oriented institution whose research focuses on the principles, mechanisms and effects of evolutionary change. It is home to the Department of Theoretical Biology and the Department of Microbial Population Biology, and several independent research groups. The institute is located in Plön, a town in a beautiful lake area in Northern Germany, about an hour north of Hamburg.
